I’m usually a bargain cruiser — to me, it’s worth the tradeoff to book a cheaper cabin if it means I can cruise more often. I don’t need a lot of perks and frills; in fact, when I originally read MSC’s website about the Yacht Club, I thought it sounded a little too pretentious for me.
The fact is, in my experience at least, the Yacht Club wasn’t pretentious — it was just really nice. I can see a few scenarios when the Yacht Club might be just the choice for your next cruise vacation.
When you want to treat yourself. As I mentioned in a previous post, the Yacht Club is significantly more expensive than a standard interior cabin. But sometimes, it’s nice to give yourself a little something special. Maybe it’s a milestone birthday, maybe you want to plan something to look forward to, maybe it’s been a rough time in your life. The Yacht Club is a nice way to do something special for yourself.

When you’re traveling with a group of family or friends. I saw several groups of family, girls’ trips, etc during my cruise in the Yacht Club. This experience is great for groups of people traveling together. The Top Sail Lounge is an excellent meetup spot with plenty of room for groups. Even better, you know your cabins will all be relatively close (YC cabins are located in the same area on the ship) and the concierge facility makes it easier to make reservations for larger groups.
When it’s a busy time of year. I sailed during Spring Break, and when I left the Yacht Club area, it was obvious: pools were crowded, facilities were busy, etc. But inside the bubble of the Yacht Club, it was peaceful and uncrowded. The Top Sail Lounge and YC pool bar were great options when other bars were busy.

When you (or someone in your party) is mobility challenged. On the tram to Ocean House, the Yacht Club facility on MSC’s private island, I talked with a woman who was traveling with her sisters, one of whom had some trouble walking. She mentioned that the help and access offered by the Yacht Club had made their trip considerably easier. While every cruise ship of course offers facilities that are handicap accessible, I can see where the more personalized assistance of the Yacht Club would be helpful.
