Do you have the power?

What chargers should you bring for your cruise? I have a few suggestions.

A lot of people have a similar question about their cruise ship cabin: Will there be enough outlets for me to charge all of my devices? These days, we travel with a ton of items that need to be recharged, sometimes every day.

It’s true that a lot of cruise ship cabins, especially on older cruise ships, don’t have nearly the number of power outlets you’re used to having at home. So I’ve compiled a list of some ideas for charging devices that can help increase your charging options during your cruise. (All of these links are affiliate links, which means that I receive a small amount of money when you purchase them — at no cost to you!)

My favorite hack is a multi-USB charger that uses the Euro plug. Every cruise ship cabin I’ve ever been in has an EU-format outlet. In order to make sure this outlet isn’t going to waste, I bought an EU-format multi-USB charger with two USB-A and two USB-C plugs.

I also bring along a universal travel adapter that also doubles as a great charger for my international trips. If you travel to multiple countries on a single trip, this adapter is great because it can be used with US, UK, and EU outlets. Because of this, it’s really flexible for cruise ship cabins because you can use it in the EU or the US port, depending on your needs.

There are all sorts of portable power banks, but if you haven’t been on a cruise before, you might not realize how valuable they can be. Many cruise ship cabins don’t have a charging outlet near the bed, especially on older ships. So if you want to have your phone beside your bed, to use as a clock/alarm or whatever, something like this clip-on power bank will allow you to do that. (It’s also easy to carry around with your phone in case you run low on battery when you’re out and about — no cord required.)

Another option for portable/bedside charging is a bank like this one that will also charge your laptop computer. These high-power charging banks need to be kept in your carry-on when you fly to your cruise, for safety reasons. Whatever you decide, I think a portable power bank is a must if you want to be sure that you can charge your phone beside your bed at night, regardless of the cabin’s outlet configuration.
